The Algarve is the main tourist destination of Portugal which became popular with the arrival of air transit.

It has calm seas and sandy south facing beaches often with dramatic rock formations. For most of the year the weather is hot and sunny.

In recent years, many golf courses have been built in the region and over the border in Spain.
