A restored Minho farm house in a rural area with Braga as the main nearby city.
In the valley can be seen Amares where vineyards produce Vinho Verde wine. A short drive away is the famous sanctuary of Bom Jesus in Braga and also the Peneda-Geres National Park. The property has simple furnishings which are comfortable and functional. All the areas have central heating. Air conditioning is not usual in the area since the temperature of the house is always pleasant due to the thickness of the granite walls. There are three cottages in the property: Casa do Forno
This small house is very pretty with its own private garden and patio, overlooking the valley. It has one twin bedded bedroom with en-suite shower/toilet. The lounge area is equipped with TV/video and has a couch that can pull out to a comfortable double bed, if needed. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave, cooker and farmhouse table seating 4. The kitchen also has the original Minho farmhouse oven. Casa das Azeitonas
Casa das Azeitonas is a traditional renovated stone house - the front of the house looks over the courtyard and the rear over the gardens and the pool.
The house has two large twin-bedded bedrooms situated on the groundfloor - two foldaway beds suitable for younger children are also available. Both bedrooms have en-suite shower/toilet and built in wardrobes - patio doors lead to the courtyard. The first floor has a large sitting room area with TV/video and a dining room with seating for six. The fully fitted modern kitchen is equipped with dishwasher, microwave, cooker and fridge. The whole house is furnished to a very high and comfortable standard and is very spacious. Casa da Colmeia Casa da Colmeia is similar in size and style to Casa das Azeitonas but has a side view that looks over the valley - which is particularly beautiful at sunset. The old grain house has been restored into a games room with table tennis table, mini-football and card table with magnificent views over the quiet and peaceful valley.
The separate laundry room is fully equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing boards and drying area. A stone table and barbecue area is near a typical "Espigueiro", where local farmers used to store grain and maize. The swimming pool is in the lawned garden dotted with mature fruit trees. The size is 13 x 7 metres and 0.50 to 1.70 metres deep. Near the pool there is a separate room. Sun lougers are available for pool side sunbathing. The farm has a very unique traditional water mill, now restored, which provides water for the farm's vineyards - the mill is only 300 metres from the house and provides a tranquil picnic or reading area. In walking distance there is a small low cost restaurant where you can try (eat in or take away) local traditional food such as the delicious grilled pork marinated in local red wine. Changeover day is Saturday. There is a minimum rental of two weeks in July and August. The nearest international airport is at Oporto (Porto). |
