| The Santa Luzia Cottages
are overlooking the beautiful town of Viana do Castelo in the
Minho and only minutes from the Atlantic beaches.
They are a superb conversion
of former estate workers cottages and are situated in the grounds of an
8 hectare estate.
The cottages have recently
been converted to very high standards this is also reflected in the furnishings
and fixtures and fittings.
There are five cottages all very tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. Two of the cottages have an interconnecting door. The cottages are grouped
together near the main house which is occasionaly used by the owners.
A second 4 bedroom house is available for rent but is unsuitable for children
or the elderly due to the spiral staircases.
All the cottages have central heating, open fireplace, fully fitted kitchenette and double glazed windows. The views are over the roofs of Viana do Castelo, the Lima Valley and the ocean beyond. The accommodation is as follows: 1 BEDROOM COTTAGE
Two similar cottages are
available.
A similar cottage with 2 twin bedrooms is available. Outside, the estate climbs
from the town to the road leading up to the beauty spot of Santa Luzia
Church. A large part of the area is covered by pine and eucalyptus woods.
A feature of the estate are the aviaries in which a collection of about 100 decorative pheasants and some peacocks are kept. A shaded hillside area has
a communal barbecue for the use of the guests occupying the cottages.
The town centre of the beautiful old sailing port of Viana do Castelo is about a minutes walk from the property. In the town there are many restaurants, cafes and shops and all the facilities of a regional capital. Walking up the hill, guests
should visit the Santa Luzia Temple, the more energetic can climb up to
the observation platform above the dome (The Zimborium).
Continuing up the hill is the site of the original celtic round houses, the first inhabited area of the town. The population living here began to decline about 2000 years ago with the Roman invasion when the inhabitants were forced to move to the low lying land to become farmers to feed the Roman armies. On top of the hill is the beautiful Pousada where a beer on the terrace, which has splendid panoramic views, is highly recommended. A road also leads along the top of the mountain with stunning views and wild horses. The swimming pool has views over the ocean. The dimensions are 12 x 6 metres and 1.5 to 2 metres deep. There are a number of excellent golf courses in the area, they can be seen by clicing on Northern Portugal golf courses. |

| We loved the Santa Luzia cottages at Quinta Val Verde. The cottage was comfortable, the setting and surroundings were delightful, including the pool, the walk into town was pleasant and not far but the very best thing was the very helpful delightful people who looked after us and the property. An excellent find.

| We were a family of nine people staying in two cottages and the accommodation was absolutely perfect for all us, young and old. The best part was the verandah with the beautiful view over the valley and out to the ocean - we all loved to relax there at the end of the day. Nicely redone cottages with lots of lovely touches and every convenience. The sound of the peacocks was not too disturbing and added a nice touch. The younger people enjoyed the wireless reception in the common rooms although we didn't spend much time there because the cottages were conveniently located for a walk into the town of Viana do Castelo or drives up the coast or to Braga and Guimaraes. We also took advantage of the infinity pool in the garden when we mostly had to ourselves. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The only drawback was the remote to open the gate onto the property - we had three cars but only two remotes so we had to coordinate our entries and exits! |
