| Torre
de Refoios is a centuries old farm possibly dating back to the 11th Century.
It is located in the village of Refoios near Ponte de Lima in the valley
which once belonged to the monks of the nearby Refoios Monastery.
There
are wonderful views from the top of the tower of the beautiful, unspoilt
countryside stretching as far as the eye can see.
The cottages can be rented separately or together. They are particularly suitable for families with young children because 2 of the cottages have an adjoining door. The cottages are comfortable and nicely furnished with a homely ambience. Each cottage is self contained and has a living room with dining table and a fireplace (the firewood is replaced daily) kitchenette and a television. The cottages also have a private garden or balcony with panoramic views. The
bedroom has twin beds, an ensuite bathroom and heating. An extra bed can
be added (supplement payable).
It's a beautiful and tranquil spot surrounded by vineyards, with a delightful pool used by guests staying at the property. The large fenced swimming pool, set behind the tower, is a short walk from the cottage and there is a track down to the river and a small beach. There is also a play area with small toys for children. The
market town of Ponte de Lima is just 10 minutes by car where all amenities
are to be found and many good restaurants.
Today the bridge is fortunately pedestrianised with a new modern bridge a kilometre or so downstream. Ponte de Lima and the area around the river bank is still a delight where its shops display their smoked hams and sausages hanging outside. Every other Monday there is a large market which takes over the “beach” area. Ponte
de Lima welcomes many visitors on the day before the feast of Corpus Christi
when there is a tradition, over 300 hundred years old, of parading a bull
through the town and the beach.
A beautiful and interesting bicycle route has recently been constructed linking the protected natural area of Bertiandos' lagoon to Ponte Lima, passing across many delightful sites. The spectacular golf course at Ponte de Lima is a short drive away, and the National Park of Peneda Geres is easily reached by car. There are two good restaurants in walkindg distance from the property. The village nearby has a Church, restaurant, bakery, grocers, and a cafe and patisserie which makes a good place to relax and watch village life go by. There is a swimming pool, protected by a fence, 10 by 5 metres in length and with a depth from 1 to 2 metres. Horse riding is available at the Ponte de Lima riding centre where there is also a course on dressage. |

| Torre de Refoios We've stayed in one of Torre de Refoios cottages and we have enjoyed it a lot. The owner and family were very welcoming and provided much information and history about the area; the cottages were beautifully restored and spacious enough for 3 (with an extra bed in living room); the place was quiet and the surroundings very nice. A nice way to enjoy true portuguese hospitality! Recomended! |

| We had a wonderful stay at Torre de Refoios. The setting is beautiful, the cottages are well-equipped and we were warmly welcomed. The location is ideal to explore the area-close enough to main roads to be convenient, but far enough off to be peaceful. There is a good bakery and small shops within walking distance which is an added plus. We had a hard time leaving and wished we had spent more time in this lovely region of Portugal. |
