Porto (Oporto) has the old riverside area which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Across the river are the Port Wine 'caves' which are a major tourist attraction. Up river terraced vineyards lead down to the river while near the Spanish border are pre-historic rock paintings. The area has many old towns, including Guimaraes, the first capital of Portugal.
