The Tagus river flows south here and enters the sea at Lisbon. Two motorways come to the area from Lisbon enabling a long day of sight seeing. Our site does not usually have accommodation in towns. However our listing for this region does include accommodation in a small palace which is part of the castle complex overlooking Lisbon. The old walled town of Obidos used to be the traditional gift of the king to his wife on marriage. The area surrounding the capital has manor houses in their vineyards where the former workers cottages have been converted for tourism. The western coast has long sandy Atlantic beaches attracting the surfers while the south facing beaches of the Tagus estuary have quiet waters. Sintra is the town where the court used to move in former times and has many palaces. Cascais is also interesting and Estoril has the largest casino in Europe. The properties listed here have a kitchen or kitchenette and, unless otherwise described, share the swimming pool and other facilities with other guests. Prices are per day and there is a minimum let of three days. |
